Travel deep into the heart of glaciated Connemara, where rugged mountains tumble into Atlantic fjords and local traditions are very much alive. This private tour brings you along winding scenic roads to the shores of Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord and one of its most breathtaking landscapes.

Here, you’ll visit a Killary sheep farm, a working farm, for a live demonstration of expertly trained sheepdogs in action — a fascinating insight into rural life that hasn’t changed much in generations. It’s authentic, engaging, and always a guest favourite.

We then continue to a local pub for lunch, where you can relax and enjoy hearty regional food and warm hospitality.

In the afternoon, the pace slows as you arrive at the magnificent Kylemore Abbey. Set beside a tranquil lake and backed by forested hills, this former Benedictine monastery offers time to explore the abbey, stroll the Victorian Walled Gardens, or simply soak up the peaceful atmosphere of one of Ireland’s most iconic sites.

 Verified This tour was fantastic. We were a group of three, and the only ones on this particular day's tour, so the experience amounted to a private showing. Our guide and driver, Colleen, was charming and amusing, and she provided a ton of personal perspectives and insights on local history. The highlight for us was Aughnanure Castle, which had been constructed by the O'Flaherty clan back in the day; the O'Flahertys happen to be my wife's ancestors on her father's side. We learned that the Ferocious O'Flahertys were widely regarded as thieves and murderers during their heyday, but they were also clever and resourceful. Kylemore Abbey was also worth visiting, with a rich and diverse history. The countryside through which we drove is spectacular. The cost of the tour is a bit pricey, but the experience is definitely worth the expense.

One operator wanted to charge me 650 euros!  Colleen's rate was totally reasonable and we chatted the whole way while my teen son slept in the back. Colleen was such an amazing tour guide on our private tour to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. She picked us up from Shannon airport and we stopped at historical sights, points of interest, and yummy treat shops along the way. She shared her wealth of knowledge about Ireland with us throughout the journey.

Colleen also was kind enough to help us plan our following days in the west of Ireland. She gave us tips on weather, travel arrangements to the Aran Islands, and must sees in the Galway area. Not to mention she connected us with tour guides in the Aran Islands in case we needed assistance once we arrived.
